What level of knowledge or experience is expected before enrolling?

Modified on Mon, 9 Mar at 9:16 AM

All modules are open to doctors, nurses, midwives, and other clinical healthcare professionals (HCPs) working regularly in abortion care.

It is expected that Modules 1 and 2 will have been completed before starting Modules 3 to 6, unless equivalent training can be proven (e.g. Community Sexual and Reproductive Health (CSRH) or Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) specialty training).

Doctors will gain the skills to undertake surgical abortion up to the gestational limit of the module they have completed. Other HCPs will only be able to complete the surgical modules to the entrustability level suitable for their role.

Those undertaking training in later surgical procedures must be competent in the earlier gestation procedures. Competence in earlier gestations can be demonstrated by completion of the relevant sections in the CSRH or RCOG curriculum. With Specialty Doctors who are not on a training programme, a declaration should be obtained from their Supervising Consultant.
