The GMC defines a currency period for evidence to confirm that a clinician’s competence and professional engagement are current. While knowledge and skills can have been acquired at any point in the past, there must be evidence of continuing competency and engagement.
The GMC acknowledges that doctors take time out of work for a range of reasons, including parenting, health, and caring responsibilities, and allows flexibility on timeframes accordingly. For full details, please refer to the currency period section of the SSG, available on the GMC website.
